Beloved wife of the late Albert Metcalf Sr.
Devoted mother of Pearl Goodwin and companion Thomas Drago of East Boston, Peter Metcalf and wife Pamela of Revere, Anthony Metcalf and wife Maryellen of Winthrop, Joseph Metcalf of Revere, and the late Albert Metcalf Jr.
Dear sister of the late Laura Sousa, Frances Hock, Mary Correnti, James Zagarella and Peter Zagarella.
Cherished grandmother of Peter Metcalf, Jill and Jackie Goodwin, and Stephanie and Gabrielle Metcalf.
Also survived by her 4 adored great grandchildren and loving nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor Josephine’s life by gathering in the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 971 Saratoga Street, (Orient Heights) East Boston on Monday May 29 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm and again on Tuesday morning at 8:30am before leaving in procession to the Most Holy Redeemer Church, Maverick Street, (Maverick Sq) East Boston for a funeral mass celebrating her life at 10:00am.
In honoring Josephine’s life, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
Josephine was born in Boston on May 12, 1920 to the late Peter and Maria (Boncore) Zagarella. She was a lifelong resident in East Boston. She worked for many years as a seamstress, and also worked as a waitress for the airlines. Josephine passed away peacefully in the Boston Medical Center after a brief illness on Wednesday morning. She was 97 years of age.
The funeral home is handicapped accessible, and a children’s lounge is available. Courtesy valet parking is available at the front entrance.
